How to Replace an audi a1 key G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. This sensor is located at the edge of transmission just above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

Located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this information to regulate fuel and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can activate spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jumpy chain link in the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit challenging since there are two connector pins, and they serve different purposes but the best method to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms when the sensor is operating at its maximum. If you're experiencing issues with this component, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, three were drenched in gazoline, the fourth was dry. When I start the engine with no sparks i put tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline jump out but the 4th stays closed. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. I get zero Ohm. I think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've eliminated everything else. However, i'm afraid that i might have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find a spare in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them - put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They should be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, audi a4 replacement key ABY, and ADU) engines have an ECU that needs to know the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of the fuel injectors, etc. It makes use of a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If you encounter a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could lead to an engine shutdown.

The signs of a failing G28 sensor are an inaccurate gearbox rev counter, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or a misfire when you're in gear. It is possible that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you experience any of these symptoms. They are cheap and easy-to-find, especially if they're an Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a number of problems in your vehicle. It is a crucial part of your audi key programming's transmission, as it sends information to the ECU about how the car key cover audi's crankshaft is spinning. When this sensor fails, it can affect the performance of the transmission, as well as the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to control fuel and boost, and also to timigrate. It also relays it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for failure by checking continuity between it and the tachometer, Audi Q7 Replacement Key between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see an average resistance of 1000 ohms in these areas. This part is common across the audi replacement key Cost 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU You may also find them in wrecking yards.1200px-Vauxhall_logo_2019.svg_.png
